IF you've been watching the current BBC Big Painting Challenge and would love to have a go yourself, Herefordshire Painting Club can offer the support and advice you're looking for.
It can all seem a little daunting on your own, which is why Herefordshire Painting Club came into being 40 years ago, as Richard Bavin explains. "We go out painting together weekly from April to September, a different day of the week each time (not weekends), and this year our programme includes the Weir at daffodil time, Grosmont village and Brobury Gardens.
"We are very fortunate to be invited to paint in private gardens across the county too. The weather has its challenges, especially when it’s wet, but with a large umbrella or waterproof we can still get something down on paper before we retreat for a cup of tea. Two of our painting days are tutored each year, and we also have a painting demonstration at our indoor meeting on Saturday, March 21 from 10am to 12.30pm at Bodenham Village Hall - new members welcome.
Our members come from all over the county and range from complete beginners to professional artists. One of our long standing members is now 97, and she still comes out rain or shine."
Membership costs £15 for the year which includes the annual programme, three newsletters, and two formal gatherings. We have an annual painting competition and a bi-annual exhibition which this year will be part of h.Art.
