CONTEMPORARY posters and flyers from the Dutch underground music and club scene are showcased for the first time in the UK in a new exhibition, opening tomorrow at The Courtyard.
Curated by the Dutch artist and curator Yvo van der Vat, the work is notable for its radical and vivid use of traditional printmaking techniques, including screen printing, and mixing these with digital techniques.
The exhibition includes work by a number of artists and groups, including Strawdogs and Zeloot. Strawdogs, (Robert Minnaard and Paul van de Werf), who also brand themselves Shootmedia, are based in the Groningen, and make posters for the international underground music scene, including for VERA in Groningen. Zeloot came to prominence for her work with the the Hague-based underground collective Helbaard. She now lives and works in Germany and produces illustrations, ’zines and children's books. Her work has been commissioned by The New Yorker, the New York Times, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Esquire, and Ray-ban. Her first children’s picture book was published in November last year by Editions Michel Lagarde
The exhibition, which has been made possible by Municipality Dordrecht, can be seen in The Courtyard Exhibition space on the top floor from tomorrow until Sunday, May 17. The Gallery is open 9am to late, Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 5pm on Sundays and is free to enter.
