Responding to landscape is a starting point for many artists, particularly in the beautiful surroundings of the Marches. This short session will give you an opportunity to make quick sketches around the city of Hereford with the guidance of a local artist.

Shakespeare Alive
Led by the Festival Players, this workshop will include aspects of performance such as speech, movement, character and combat. The Festival Players Theatre Company is now into its thirtieth year, and is well established as a professional company delivering the best in open-air Shakespeare. It continues to grow in reputation, both nationally and internationally.

Musical Walking Tour of Hereford
Discover Elgar’s links to the City of Hereford and to the Three Choirs Festival as composer and conductor. Hear about the people and places associated with him, including the story of Dan, the dog which belonged to the cathedral organist, George Robertson Sinclair.

Guided Walking Tours in Historic Hereford
An introduction to this ancient border city, lasting between an hour and 90 minutes. Hereford’s position in the much disputed borderland between England and Wales made it strategically important to the Saxons, the Normans and their successors.

Music and...the Science of the singing Voice
A scientific exploration of the nature and properties of the human voice through sound recordings, video clips, animations and images with Alan Watson, senior lecturer in anatomy and neuroscience at Cardiff University. Learn how the larynx produces sound, how it controls the pitch, and how the throat and mouth are manipulated to alter vocal register and quality. How is it possible for a singer's voice to fill a concert hall without a microphone ... and why does this make the words harder to understand? Experience the lost sound of the castrato voice and the ethereal tones of the throat singers of the Mongolian steppes.
