TRAINERS won't be necessary for the marathon taking place in Cardiff on June 16 - all you'll need is a camera and your imagination.

That's because the marathon in the city is photomarathon, a photographic competition with a twist. Taking place over 12 hours, entrants will be given a 12-picture film and asked to take 12 images of 12 given subjects.

Photomarathon is now in its fourth year in Cardiff and organisers are expecting the largest number of entries yet.

"All you need to do is be able to hold a camera," says Cardiff-based freelance photographer Betina Skovbro, who brought the concept to the UK after taking part in a similar event in her native Copenhagen. "You don't need to be a fantastic photographer. During photomarathon you are looking for inspiration and at sights you may never have noticed before."

Following the competition, there will be a chance to see all the participants' work at an exhibition which runs from July 7 in the Old Library in Cardiff.
