HEREFORD Cathedral assistant organist Peter Dyke (right) will be pulling out all the stops for another Hereford first on May 22, when his gala evening organ concert includes the first performance of a new transcription for organ of Enigma Variations by Sir Edward Elgar.
"The cathedral's great Willis organ is ideally suited to orchestral transcriptions as it has a huge variety of beautiful quiet registers, such as clarinet, cor anglais and strings, as well as all the power of a full symphony orchestra," says Peter. "Elgar's music gives me plenty of opportunities to use the full range."
The concert, kindly supported by John Clarke, starts at 7.30pm on Tuesday, May 22. Tickets are available from the Cathedral Shop (01432 374208) or on the door.
