PARTS of Hereford County Hospital have been given a make-over by staff at the Holmer Road B&Q store.
They volunteered their time at night to brighten up rooms and cheer up patients and staff.
The eight-strong team carried out the refurbishments as part of their on-going commitment to community projects in the area.
After consulting with hospital matrons, the B&Q team tackled the under-eights' room in the A&E department giving it a Jungle Book theme, the over-eight's room has classic Walt Disney characters and a general cubicle for children needing more intensive monitoring has been decorated with pop art.
In the admissions ward the relatives' room has been refreshed with a new colour scheme and new furniture to make it more comfortable.
Paula Heath, lead nurse in A&E, said staff appreciated the work of the B&Q team and the changes were already bringing pleasure to both staff and patients.
The project was designed by Sharon Jefferson, assistant manager at the Holmer Road store, who said she was proud of the team's achievements.
"It's been hard work, but very rewarding.
"We wanted to put a smile on people's faces, or at least help them during their visit to hospital,'' she said.
Many of the team have visited the County and, as a mother, Sharon has been there a few times as well.
"I've always received first class treatment and service. This is my way, with the help of B&Q, of giving a little bit back,'' she said.
