A NEW Herefordshire environmental group is looking for volunteers to communicate its message about climate change.

Chance to Change (C2C), a new initiative based in Kington, aims to build a team of "climate communicators" to raise awareness.

The group will run workshops and training sessions to develop skills to create awareness of climate change and help people in Kington and the surrounding villages act on their environmental concerns in practical terms.

Rachel Francis, project officer, said: "The aim is to clarify information on climate change to a broadsweep of the community. We want people to be clear about what it is."

The group hopes to organise six communication sessions, prepare printed material, organise questionnaires and surveys, work with a community theatre project, and build on the success of Lady Hawkins High School in promoting environmental awareness.

"Children are learning about it at school," Rachel said. "The rest of us need to catch up - there is a lack of joined-up thinking."

The group, which is funded by Defra, will work with existing groups and hopes to set up similar projects in Ludlow and Hereford later this year.
