THE fire that ripped through Cutty Sark was keenly felt in one Hereford household. Trevor Palmer spent seven years making a scale model of the ship from scratch.
Trevor says he'll be keeping a close eye on his compact Cutty Sark in landlocked Redhill after Monday's blaze.
Trevor was devastated by what he saw of the fire and the damage done. He knows the Greenwich site well from his time there studying original plans as he painstakingly put his intricate replica together.
Now Trevor fears for the future of the the real thing.
"Even with a restoration Cutty Sark won't be the same. At least the rigging was saved and if the original iron work has been saved too then there might be some hope," he said.
Cutty Sark was just one of the miniture sailing ships Trevor has built to scale in his back garden shipyard'. He sees his models as a tribute to the craftsman who constructed the originals.
