JOCKEY James Tudor took the Golden Valley Hunt point to point meeting at Brewardine by storm when he scored a treble to extend his seasonal total to 26 winners.

The 23-year-old, currently lying in second place in the jockeys' championship, struck in all divisions of the Maiden race with victories on Devil's Teardrop, Giveusawave and Make It Plain while chasing title-holder Richard Burton who has 34 wins.

The Welsh Border Counties Area Club Confined Champ-ionship saw Spring-brook Girl sent off favourite and, despite a brave front-running attempt by Lombards Lass, she swept into the lead after jumping the third last fence and, with rider Claire Allen, won by two and half lengths.

Trainer Andy Hobbs said: "We had promised Claire a ride earlier in the season if the ladies' title race was tight and it is, so we're glad to have helped."

Allen came in for the ride after the original jockey, Eastnor-based Julian Pritchard, suffered a broken leg in a bad fall in the Restricted race.

First replacement Adrian Wintle had to pass up the mount because of the delay in racing would have prevented him riding in a Hunterchase at Uttoxeter later in the day.

The Ladies' Open race fell to Fleur De Nikos, ridden by Jenny Carr, and the partnership held off early challenges to stay on resolutely and score by three lengths from Why Connie.

Fleur De Nikos was a hurdle winner in France and it would be no surprise for the eight-year-old to return to that sphere during the summer, and that also remains a possibility for Euryalus, the beaten favourite in the Open.

Despite all the efforts of jockey Adrian Wintle, Euryalus was just held by half a length by Corkan and James Mathias in the seven-runner race.
