TEENAGE Hereford Driving Group member Emily Ham is set for an appearance before the Queen next month.

Ham's prowess as a carriage driver was recognised when she was chosen to receive the BDS David Snowdon Award for the second year running.

This is a national prize given to the junior driver who has achieved the most across the range of driving and training activities at events affiliated to the official carriage driving organisations - the British Driving Society and the British Horse Driving Trials Association.

She will receive the award at the annual show of the British Driving Society held at Smith's Lawn, Windsor on June 24 which includes a parade on the polo ground in front of the Queen.

The youngster has also picked up the British Driving Society Wales scholarship for the 15-18-years age group.

In competition, Ham has already qualified for the BDS National Finals by winning the best junior driver to a traditional turnout' and best junior driver' overall at the first show of the season in Yeovil.

She is also hoping to take her pair of dun ponies to compete in the private driving carriage class at the Royal Welsh Show.

She is training them in tackling outdoor driving trials obstacles and has had two practice sessions with a supreme champion, James Broome.
