A RECYCLING site is due to close next week after being found 'unviable'.
The facility at the Co-Op in Cusop, Hay on Wye, will close on February 8, after community groups refused to take it of the hands of the county council.
Councillor Gareth Radcliffe said that the site was only making £200 a year income leading to the decision.
He said: "It's disappointing that recycling is moving from the Co-op but I can understand why.
"The site raised a lot of money for the the Cusop Community in the past but now with recycling money so low on certain items it's not viable.
"We had a discussion with the council about maybe taking it over but the income was not favourable for community groups."
Residents will now be directed to the community recycling site at Oxford Road, which collects paper, cardboard, plastics, cans, glass, green garden waste and textiles.
Councillor John Powell, Powys Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability, said: “With the weekly kerbside recycling service and an alternative community recycling site at Oxford Road for larger items such as cardboard, green waste and textiles, Hay is well served for recycling facilities."
