FOR the first time in nearly 30 years a Wassail was held in Kempley resurrecting ancient traditions. The sell out event was blessed with good weather and thanks to the generous contributions of local people raised nearly £500 towards the Kempley Village Hall Redevelopment Fund.
Roy Stirzaker and Maggie Brocklehurst who organised the event said "The evening was sold out and thanks to local volunteers' we were able to revive the old Wassail tradition and have a fantastic fun evening with a torchlight procession to the village hall, finished off with a hot supper. Folk music was provided by Dave Blick (who was at the last Kempley Wassail), Gareth Heatley and friends. We were able to offer the community hot mulled cider from local brewer Geoff Newman and food sourced locally from the rapidly
developing food scene in the village. The poachers casserole made with local rabbit proved very popular."
