A HEREFORDSHIRE mum whose son died in January has organised a golf day to raise funds for the charity which helped to look after him.

Harry Williams was born in September 2004. He was often very ill and spent much of his short life in Hereford County Hospital, but despite numerous tests and scans both there and in Birmingham, consultants were never able to give a diagnosis.

Harry was unable to speak, had no mobility and needed a gastric tube fitted directly into his stomach to be fed.

After becoming ill towards the end of last year, Harry was never able to fully recover and died at home on January 25.

Harry attended Megan Baker House, the conductive education centre for children and young adults with neurological disorders.

Last year, Harry's mum Sarah Osborn and friends and family raised £5,000 as a way of saying thank you to the conductors who were such a great support for Harry and his family.

This year Sarah, along with Harry's uncle Alec Osborn, are hoping to raise even more from a charity day they have organised at South Herefordshire Golf Course.

Tickets are £40 and include a bacon sandwich and coffee on arrival, 18 holes of golf - Overross Renault Garage have promised to donate a car if anyone hits a hole in one - and a barbecue at Mighty 8 Pool Club in Ross-on-Wye.

In the evening, there will be a raffle and auction and anyone wishing to donate a prize or buy a ticket can email alecosborn@yahoo.co.uk l Harry's dad Darryl Williams is planning to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats, from July 23 to August 4, to raise even more money for Megan Baker House.

Mr Williams, who teaches at Monmouth Comprehensive School, will be joined by Tony Morris and Chris Alias, who teach at John Kyrle High School, in Ross-on-Wye, to ride the 874 miles.

They will be joined by Neil Edwards, who plays for Ebbw Vale Rugby Club.

The group hopes to raise £10,000 and aims to finish the route in nine days - cycling around 100 miles each day. They are looking for sponsorship ahead of the event, which will take place during the last week of July.

Anyone who would like to sponsor the team or help with transport or equipment can call Mr Morris on 01989 563997.
