A GROUP of young people in Leominster wanted to play their part in helping to raise money for a new cancer unit at Hereford County Hospital.
They had read so much about fundraising in the area, and that North Herefordshire Renton Appeal group were actively supporting the £1.5 million target, that they arranged to stage their own event.
Twelve of them from Leominster Youth Centre successfully tackled a 12-hour pool tournament and enjoyed the event.
The bonus was that they raised £800 for the appeal and they were grateful for the support of Leominster's Rankin Club, Club Sport, One Stop Print Shop and Mark Ellis.
Denise Pugh, chairman of the North Herefordshire Renton Appeal, said it was very encouraging to see young people involved and the £800 contributed by the pool players had brought the money raised locally by the appeal group to £50,000 in a year.
