Sunday, June 10, will see farms all over the country opening their gates to the public to show why farming matters.
Organised by Linking Environment And Farming (LEAF) with support from the National Farmers Union (NFU), farmers are encouraging everyone to visit their local farm to see how their food is grown.
The Williams family will be opening Marston Court, near Pembridge, a mixed farm with beef, sheep, pigs, apple orchards and arable.
On the day, everyone will have a chance to enjoy many aspects of farming and country life, from a nature trail/farm walk, shearing demonstration, machinery exhibition, butter making, apple pressing, spinning, see the animals, felt making, fun quizzes and much more.
The event will run from 11am to 5pm and admission is free. Refreshments will be available all day, along with a pig roast from 1pm.
The family believes the open day is an ideal opportunity for children and adults to learn more about where their food comes from and the environment around them.
And Harewood End Agricultural Society members are arranging a number of activities for adults and families.
Ben Drummond, from The Homme, Hom Green, and Henry Chinn, of Cobrey Farms, Coughton, near Walford, lie closest to Ross while Anthony Snell, of Pencoyd Farm, near Harewood End, is located on the A49 Hereford road.
The last of the quartet is Helen Wallis, from Treworgan Farm, Llangrove, set in the beautiful and peaceful rolling countryside just off the A40 through Glewstone and Llangarron.
Large-scale fruit and vegetable growing for the national supermarkets demands rigorously high standards and enormous attention to detail as well as a huge financial investment in stock and equipment. Treworgan Farm also features the less common activity of milking goats and livery stables.
All four farms will be open to everyone from 11am to 3pm. Visit the website at www.farmsunday.org to find out more about the day and the local farms which are open.
