DR Colin Skinner, author of "Beyond the setting sun", visited St Michael's Hospice as part of his amazing 6,000 mile walk across America and the UK - a journey he is undertaking for the second time.
In 1985, the 19-year-old hospital porter Colin Skinner felt compulsed to do something' when he experienced first hand how terminally ill patients were treated in hospital.
So 20 years ago he set out to walk across the UK and North America to raise the profile of hospices and highlight the valuable work that they do for the local community. His journey took him from Los Angeles to Lands End, via John O'Groats.
Dr Skinner, who lives in Dover, is currently retracing his footsteps and has nearly finished the UK leg of the trip, stopping at various hospices to talk about his journey and to promote his book.
Next year he is set to take on the USA again. It took him eight months last time and he is hoping to match that, if not being slightly quicker!
Beyond the Setting Sun', with foreword written by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, goes through every day of this incredible journey. You can buy a copy of the book, priced at £10 (£5 going to St Michael's Hospice) from selected St Michaels's Hospice shops and directly from the hospice. They have 20 signed copies which will be sold on a first come first served basis.
