AN HISTORIC 14th century drovers inn which was once threatened with permanent closure is being run as a pub once again.
The Rhydspence Inn near Whitney-on-Wye is now open after being brought by local resident Mark Price and his wife Lowri.
The pub which is positioned near the Welsh border also serves home cooked food and has seven guest rooms.
Mark who used to live across the river in Clifford brought the pub after seeing it shut.
He said: "I have been in the pub game previously as a chef until 2006.
"I've always liked the look of the place and thought that it needs to be open. The previous owners ran it as a B&B before it was completely shut in September.
"In the past there was a big thing about it being turned into properties but it has always been a pub so I made an offer and the previous owners accepted.
"We want to let people know we are here as before visitors used to travel from miles around. We have a restaurant seating 40 people and all our food is home cooked.
"Apparently it used to be an old drovers inn. When the Welsh farmers were taking their cattle and sheep across the country they used to stop here."
The Price's brought the pub on January 25 before spending three weeks cleaning and decorating.
