A STAR from one of the biggest TV shows in recent times has agreed to be patron of a Herefordshire care farm.
Kit Harington, better known as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, has accepted an invitation from Longlands Care Farm in Whitbourne, near Bromyard.
The 29-year-old used to live near Whitbourne and has been a fan of Longlands, which provides care and support through work to vulnerable young people, since he was a child.
“I’m delighted and proud to be a patron of Longlands Care Farm,” he said.
“I’ve known Longlands since I was a small child, first when on holiday in Whitbourne and then when I lived near the village from the age of 11. The work of the care farm in supporting young people making the next step in their lives is close to my heart.”
The actor is not the only TV connection associated with Longlands, however.
Julia Evans, the charity’s founder, was featured on the BBC’s popular Countryfile show last Sunday.
She has been nominated as a Countryfile Farming Hero for her work turning young people’s lives around. The results will be announced later this month at the Food and Farming Awards.
“It’s fantastic to have support from Kit and Countryfile,” she said.
“They are really helping to raise the profile of Longlands and we hope that this will encourage people to make donations, as we have to match fund everything we do.”
The 300-acre organic livestock farm helps disadvantaged and vulnerable young people in the area who struggle in mainstream education by providing care, support and mentoring as well as helping them achieve employer recognised qualifications and life skills.
The charity is looking to add to its facilities so it can offer catering experiences, among other benefits. It also wants to convert a barn into a mechanic’s workshop.
To help raise funds, a concert will take place at Worcester Cathedral on Saturday when the British Police Symphony Orchestra will perform.
Concert tickets are available by calling 01905 611427, or from longlandscarefarm.co.uk
