WALTON Harness Races is one of the smaller traditional meetings that are the inner heartbeat of the BHRC circuits, and the sport at Walton last weekend certainly set the pulses racing.

Colin Bevan is wearing a path to the winner's enclosure this season, and he partnered another double with Cecil Richard's impressive novice Immortal Joe and then powered home with Bob Brimble's Southpark in the Non Winner's Handicap.

Keeping it in the family, Colin's nephew David Bevan took the Maiden race when Saunders Paigeboy won a spirited tussle with Wyeside Taurus (Shane Eggerton).

Llandovery café owner Tudor Jones served up a winning dish with the delectable mare Blackfield Annie when she made all to take the opening Pathfinder event, and later tried to repeat the tactic with Granell Shane in the feature race, the Open Handicap.

This was a real cavalry charge to the wire but when the dust cleared it was Peter O Davies' gallant Symlog Derryn Du (Mark Pritchard) who just got his head in front of Ayr Attack (Patrick Morris) and Granell Shane. This deservedly earned the popular partnership the trophy for the fastest time of the day.

There is much friendly rivalry in the Aberystwyth neck of the woods, and Trefor Morgans levelled the scores when Ystwyth Rebel (Huw Thomas) swept past the Intermediate field after an early mistake.

Patrick Morris had jubilant consolation for his narrow defeats when Blackfield Bentley owned and trained by his wife Debbie, blasted clear of Chaps Commander (Colin Bevan) to blitz the Improver field.
