David Watkins, of Clehonger Court, was the lucky farmer who won the FWAG draw for fencing materials.

He was entered in the draw when he requested a free FWAG visit under the England Catchment Sensitive Farming Delivery Initiative (ECSFDI), which is delivered in partnership by Natural England, the Environment Agency and Defra.

Herefordshire FWAG is again offering free advisory visits to farmers in the Dore and Garren and Gamber Catchments, having been successful in the latest round of tenders. ECSFDI is an initiative which aims to increase awareness among farmers and land managers in certain priority catchments of how farm management can contribute to cleaner, healthier rivers.

"There are 40 free visits available, but we urge farmers to book a visit early as the work has to be completed by July 31 and it will be on a first come, first served basis," said Caroline Hanks, one of the FWAG advisers working in the catchments.

Earlier this year, FWAG had given advice to 75 farmers in the two catchments. The advice was far ranging and helped farmers to be aware of their farm's particular environmental challenges and made sure they understood the possible breaches of environmental legislation that might have reduced their Single Payment Scheme.

The scheme has limited funds and applications have to be made by 29 June.
