HUNDREDS of children from Herefordshire have received treatment for congenital heart problems at Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Many are diagnosed from birth and news that a new baby has a heart condition can be confusing and distressing for parents.

The British Heart Foundation has recently recruited a new specialist heart nurse at the hospital, who will be able to help and support hundreds more child heart patients and their families.

She is Kate Dyer, who has been a nurse at the hospital for 14 years and has worked in both the paediatric wards and the paediatric intensive care unit.

The BHF launched an appeal to fund Kate's post for three years and was able to make the appointment after £25,000 had been raised.

But its target is £42,000 a year for three years and the BHF is urging people to support the cause.
