ESG Herefordshire has announced a list of seven potential developers to build the new Retail Quarter on Hereford's livestock market.

A shortlist will be selected by the ESG board on June 25 and each company will draw up its own proposals for redeveloping the 12-acre site with shops and leisure facilities.

The schemes will go on public display in November, prior to ESG making the final choice early in the new year.

Clive Richards, chairman of ESG Herefordshire, set up by Herefordshire Council and Advantage West Midlands, to deliver the economic growth of Hereford, said: "I am delighted to share the good news that seven companies have been selected for the initial list for the development of the Retail Quarter.

"It has been an extremely difficult task as we received submissions from an excellent range of developers, all with first-class credentials."

The seven on the list are: The British Land Company with Land Regeneration UK; Centros Miller; Hammerson Plc; Modus; Simons Developments; Stanhope and Wilson Bowden Developments Ltd.

Mr Richards added: "We have an even bigger challenge ahead of us in selecting the shortlist companies because of the high standards already demonstrated and, just as important, ensuring we identify a developer who will build on Hereford's fine assets for future generations."
