CONFECTIONERY giant Cadbury has admitted producing chocolate contaminated with salmonella.
The company faced three food hygene charges relating to the national salmonella scare centred on its plant in Marlbrook, Herefordshire, that left dozens of people, including young children, seriously ill with food poisoning last year.
At Birmingham Magistrates Court today Anthony Scrivener QC, for Cadbury's, said the company accepted responsibilty for the outbreak and would plead guilty to all three charges.
Cadbury, he said, had already spent some £20 million on improvements to its production process.
Recalling the contaminated chocolate cost the company a further £30 million.
Magistrates committed Cadbury's to Birmingham Crown Court for sentence next month.
