ONE of Hereford's hidden treasures has changed hands after being run by the same family for almost 30 years.

Gilbies, which is tucked away off Commercial Street in the city centre, was started by Kevan and Bettina Gilbert in 1988.

The city centre bar and restaurant soon had a large following of regulars keen to sample the sustenance inspired by the Mediterranean and beers from around the world.

However, the Gilberts sold the business to former manager Rob Stead and his wife Haley,

The Steads, who have just become parents to daughter Sienna Bobbie, said they plan to "continue the family ethos and provide our customers with high quality food and a great range of drinks from knowledgeable, friendly staff".

Meanwhile, the Gilberts said they would be relieved of the pressure of maintaining a bar and bistro but added that they would still return to their second home to ensure the transition runs smoothly.
