THREE people died in two separate accidents on Herefordshire's roads.

A 51-year-old woman died on the A480 Norton Canon to Sarnesfield road after two vehicles were in collision, and two motorcyclists were killed in an accident on the Callow.

Barbara Todd, of Mortimer's Cross, died on the A480 when a Land Rover Freelander and a BMW were in collision at around 5.20pm last Friday around a mile south of the A4112 junction. Miss Todd was driving the BMW.

It is believed that the Land Rover was heading south towards Norton Canon and her BMW was travelling in the opposite direction.

Fire crews from Eardisley and Kington attended and Miss Todd was cut free from her vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dr David Houston, a MARS immediate care practitioner, said: "It was a tragic accident where the driver sustained severe internal injuries.

"The emergency services battled extremely hard to resuscitate the patient but she succumbed to her injuries at the roadside."

The female driver of the Freelander was treated for shock. A male passenger suffered shock and bruising.

The second accident involved motorcycles on a three lane section of the A49 on the Callow. A Suzuki 600cc and a Kawasaki 1000cc were in collision on Sunday at around 3.20pm.

Both riders were pronounced dead at the scene.

The rider of the Suzuki was Grzegorz Majewski, a 29-year-old Polish man who was visiting a friend at a Hampton Bishop farm.

Rory Kilgannon, of Newport, Gwent, who was riding the Kawasaki, also died.

Two fire crews from Hereford attended the accident, which involved four motorcycles. Others were seen in the area at the time.

Chris Ellsum, crew manager of Blue Watch who attended the accident, said: "There was wreckage everywhere and the road was closed for a good few hours."

Dr Malcolm Russell, a MARS immediate care practitioner who treated casualties at the scene, said: "This was a tragic accident with destroyed motorbikes and debris strewn over a large stretch of road.

"The emergency services worked hard to assess, and assist, in this very traumatic incident."

Two other people were taken by the ambulance service to Hereford County Hospital.
