FOUR young Herefordshire singers will perform the hits of Broadway and the West End all over the country when they embark on a nationwide tour.

Back to Broadway starts the tour at the Blake Theatre in Monmouth on June 30 after spending months in rehearsals.

The group is led by Steve Liddle, a car salesman at Wessex Garages in Hereford, who has already starred as Chino in West Side Story, featured on BBC Radio 4 and directed shows for X-entricity.

"I have been singing since I was nine when I was inspired by my grandfather, who was a professional Italian opera singer," he said Back to Broadway also include classically trained singer James Wisker, aged 19, who was described as "a young Michael Ball" by Simon Cowell when he appeared on the X-Factor.

Charlotte Hill, aged 20, who has sung in Godspell, West Side Story and Les Miserables, and Jessica Ball, who has performed with the National Youth Musical Theatre and X-entricity Youth Theatre, also star in the show.

Steve, who is 19, said: "Here we have four keen young people who want to bring out the best in the music and present it in a fresh and vibrant style.

"So far we have a 14-date tour lined up and more are being arranged.

"I try not to burst into song when I am selling cars but I can't think of a better feeling than singing some of the songs from some of the great shows that have graced the stage in Broadway and the West End."

Jessica, from Ross-on-Wye, dedicates each of her performances to her mother, Sally Ball, who died of leukaemia when Jessica was 11.

The group is supporting her by using the tour to raise money for the charity Children with Leukaemia.

Jessica, aged 19, said: "My mum was a special needs teacher and used singing as part of that so I have tapes of me singing from a very early age - we started making songs up together from when I was six.

"Mum was ill for two years before she died and during that time she encouraged me to take singing lessons and wanted me to pursue my dream of singing on stage."

Back to Broadway's show will include songs from Les Miserables, the Lion King, Wicked and many more shows that have been hits on Broadway and in the West End.
