A NORTH Herefordshire rider has qualified for a major tournament after enjoying her biggest win to date at a horse trials in Wales.

Pembridge rider Sarah Turner saw off fierce competition to win the Novice Regional Final class at the hotly-competed Llanymynech Horse Trials.

The 20-year-old achieved the stunning win on locally-bred horse, Flaxley Fever, and will now appear at the Festival of British Eventing at Gatcombe Park later this year.

The victory was the best yet for the Birmingham University student, who is based at Vowchurch Court during the holidays with her trainer Helena Charlesworth.

There was more good news for Charlesworth as another of her students, Guy Pearson-Gregory, from Staunton-on-Wye, also picked up a win on his own horse George Youngman.

The 17-year-old and his horse - who have only been together 10 months - won the Junior Regional Novice class and finished runners-up in the Novice section at Sansaw Park Horse Trials.

It could prove a busy few months for the student, who is hoping to qualify for the Pony Club Championships this summer and the Wales and Borders team to compete at Weston Park.

Another 17-year-old, Francesca Reid-Warrilow, triumphed in the Novice section at the same competition. The victory was Reid-Warrilow's first on new horse Dolley Little Wiseguy, who was bred in Germany by former show jumper Paul Schockemohler.
