HELP is being offered to parents and children deciding which high school to choose before the application process starts in September.

Herefordshire Council is running a series of drop-in information sessions throughout July with the council's choice advisor, Carol Weston, who will help parents to understand the process and make an informed desicion on where to send their child.

During September, parents and carers of children who are in year five at the moment will be sent an application pack containing details of the county's secondary schools and dates for school open evenings, as applications for places will have to be made during the Autumn term.

Each session will last from 9.30am to 11.30am and will take place at the Kindle Centre, Hereford (July 10), Hope Family Centre, Bromyard (July 11), Larrapurtz Centre, Ross-on-Wye (July 16), Saxon Hall, Putson (July 17) and Greencroft Centre, Redhill (July 19) Councillor Jenny Hyde, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "Applying for a high school place can be a daunting process for many parents and children. Getting the right school for your child at this stage in their education is so important.

"We are hoping to arrange further information sessions in the Golden Valley, Weobley, Wigmore, Kington and Leominster in September."
