IT is day two on the dig for Derek Saville and already it is apparent that any secrets kept in the field where his remains may lie won't be given up easily.
Detectives are talking about a third day of digging into the 6ft deep trench at Nupton, near Canon Pyon, in the search for bones or other trace evidence to solve one of Herefordshire's greatest mysteries.
Today, forensic teams are expected to start sifting through soil exposed through the dig so far.
A culvert pipe, beneath which the body is believed to have been buried, has been removed with its water flow diverted and dammed, giving the team a clear "crime scene" in which to work.
But it is going to be a long job in tough conditions.
