The dig for Derek Saville is over - and his disappearance remains a mystery with no end in sight.
Detectives have called off the search for Saville's body, near Canon Pyon, after a two day dig found no trace of a burial site or human remains.
Just before 4pm today Detective Inspector David Llewellin told waiting media: "We're done. He's not there."
The Operation Panda team will now look at new options for the investigation but it already appears likely that there will not be any new digs.
Derek Saville seems destined to stay missing forever.
