BIG-hearted Hereford residents are thanked for their generosity after helping to raise funds to purchase equipment that could save lives.
Shoppers at Sainbury's in Hereford contributed over a thousand pounds towards new equipment for the Community First Responder scheme that trains volunteers with life-saving skills in the county.
Michelle Brotherton, community defibrillation officer for Hereford and Worcester, said: "When the CFRs recently held a collection at the supermarket, customers were very generous and the sum of £1285 was raised.
"With each new kit costing £3000 this will go a long way towards the purchase of an additional set of life-saving equipment for Hereford."
The scheme's volunteers respond to emergency calls across the county at the same time as the nearest emergency ambulance.
In rural areas they can be with the patient within minutes delivering treatment while the ambulance is on its way. In some cases this can mean the difference between life and death.
