THERE are many sponsors of this year's Hereford BID Business Awards 2017.
The category sponsors are: Cargills, CF Roberts, Flannels, Harrison Clark Rickerbys, Herefordshire Council, Hereford Retail Security and Old Market Shopping Centre.
This week we focus on the Hereford retail security scheme, which started more than 20 years ago.
It was set up by a small group of retailers, with the aim to help reduce crime and support Hereford city centre.
Mike Long, from Hereford Retail Security, said: "I have been part of this scheme from the beginning and am proud to say it has grown into a very successful venture.
"During the time we have helped to significantly reduce loss to businesses and anti-social behaviour.
"Our information sharing has successfully reunited parents with lost children and supported the vulnerable in our city.
"This has all been achieved by team work, retailers working together with CCTV, the high town policing team and Mercia radios, our local radio providers."
Regular meetings have identified areas for improvement within the city such as paving and cleanliness. A part of the radio subscriptions are regularly donated to local charities.
Mr Long added: "The scheme has grown in numbers and currently has 48 members, all of whom are committed to supporting each other and to further support Hereford city and its community.
"We believe making Hereford city an even more enjoyable place to visit will increase visitor numbers thus benefiting all retailers and the local community."
