THE introduction of a new school uniform at Aylestone Business and Enterprise College has proved a big hit according to the school's headteacher, Simon Robertson.
The return to a uniform that features a blazer and tie is the first of two significant changes that are happening at the school and is already having a big impact. The other planned change is the renaming of the school to the more traditional, Aylestone School.
Speaking about the developments and the pleasing progress the school is making, Mr Robertson said:
'The start of the autumn term has gone very smoothly and there is no doubt these are exciting times for our school. We were delighted by the improved GCSE results achieved by our pupils last year - especially in key areas such as English and mathematics - and the introduction of our new school uniform has been received very well by pupils and their families.
'Our pupils are wearing the uniform with a great deal of pride and are demonstrating high standards in the way that it is being worn. What is particularly pleasing is that I have received a number of positive comments from people in the wider community who have been very complimentary about how smart our children now look, not just in school, but also when they travel to and from our site.
'The next change people will become aware of is our renaming to simply, Aylestone School.
'The school became a Business and Enterprise College many years ago under a Government initiative where schools were offered funding to have a specialism. However, we are determined to strive for excellence in all areas across our school and as the initiative has now finished, we no longer feel we should include specific subjects in our name.
'To further enhance the name change, we have also decided that we will return to using the Aylestone Lion as our logo for all correspondence and school branding and this plan has also gone down very well.
'It is really satisfying to see the positive progress that we are making and I'm incredibly proud of my students and staff. They are all playing a vital role in ensuring we continue to improve and achieve the high standards we are striving for across the school.'
