THE county's blacksmithing heritage was celebrated at an inaugural festival in Hereford.
Organised by the Hereford Business Improvement District, the first Ferrous Festival of Artist Blacksmithing took place last weekend in High Town.
Members of the public were able to have a go at creating a gingko leaf at six hot metal forges, under the supervision of experienced blacksmiths.
The leaves will form part of the decorative finish to the ginkgo leaf arbour designed by leading artist blacksmith, Ambrose Burne, for St Michael’s Hospice.
Development of the event was spearheaded by Georgia Smith, strategy lead at Hereford BID, and Del Done, course leader for Artist Blacksmithing at Hereford College of Arts. The pair teamed up to create an array of activities in the city centre.
Ahead of the event, John Jones, chairman of Hereford BID, said: "It’s rooted in Hereford’s traditional skills and yet has a really contemporary appeal to men and women, young and old, whether you want to just look or whether you aspire to own pieces such as those on display."
