HEREFORD'S new City Link Road has opened this morning.
The road, which runs from Commercial Road to Edgar Street, crossing Widemarsh Street, was due to open last week but remained closed due to heavy snow.
It is hoped that the new road will provide an east to west route and a direct walking and cycling link from the Great Western Way to the hospital, railway station and colleges.
The road’s opening will also reinstate a second entrance to Merton Meadow car park.
There have been some changes to the traffic flow in the city.
Drivers will no longer be allowed to turn right onto Aylestone Hill from Barrs Court Road.
Drivers can turn into the City Link Road from Commercial Road from either direction.
Once on the new road, drivers will be allowed to turn left into Morrisons. But when leaving the Morrisons car park directly onto the new road, drivers can only turn left.
Travelling on Widemarsh Street towards the city centre, traffic will not be allowed to turn right onto the City Link Road.
And when drivers are on the City Link Road, they will be directed to turn right onto Widemarsh Street for Leominster and the A49 north.
When travelling on the City Link Road towards Commercial Road, traffic will not be allowed to turn right on Widemarsh Street towards the city.
The City Link Road only exits left onto Edgar Street - there is no right turn allowed.
But drivers can access the City Link Road from Edgar Street from either the southbound or northbound direction.
