PARKING charges have been introduced at Morrisons car park in Ross-on-Wye today.
Drivers need to pay £2 to park for two and a half hours but if customers shopping in the supermarket spend more than £5, they get a refund of the parking charge.
On Tuesday, May 21 Morrisons confirmed there is a 30-minute grace period to "allow people to fill their cars up, nip in to grab lunch, pick up from an Amazon locker etc without having to pay."
A Morrisons spokesman said they introduced the charges because: "Customers were telling us that they were sometimes finding it difficult to find a space."
It has been a hot topic of conversation on social media sites, including the Ross-on-Wye Notice Board.
Emma Drabble said: "Well it’s made sure I don’t go there anymore. I live in Monmouth but would always pop into Morrisons for a quick shop.
"We have lots of supermarkets here and you don’t have to spend on parking and if you do you get the whole amount refunded and even then it’s never more than a £1 and free on Sundays.
"Monmouth is a thriving town. Ross needs to look at its neighbouring towns and just stop killing its own trade. We had to pay for parking on a Sunday to walk the dog in Ross yesterday at an almost empty car park. And yes there was a warden patrolling it. Crazy!"
