Communities across the county united to remember Anne Frank at an interfaith Shabbat service.
Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Liberal Jewish Communities hosted the service at Hereford's Saxon Hall on Saturday, June 8 in commemoration of Anne Frank Day.
Around a hundred people attended, which organisers believe to be a record for a Shabbat service in the city.
The service was led by Rabbi Anna Gerrard and was attended by the High Sheriff of Herefordshire, Mr. Nat Hone; the Deputy Mayor of Hereford, Councillor Kath Hey; and Canon Anna Nugent of Hereford Cathedral.
Thirty choir boys from Monmouth Boy's Prep School sang 'A Sabbath Prayer' from Fiddler on the Roof and the young people also read from Anne Franks’s diary around a memorial tree dedicated to the teenager.
The service finished with a Kaddish memorial prayer and Hebrew songs, before the guests enjoyed a Kiddush, where food was contributed by members of the community.
According to organisers, many of the attendees had never been to a Jewish service before and were positive in their feedback.
