THANKS to the generosity and support of our readers the Hereford Times has reached its target of £35,000 for a charity which provides life changing sessions for children and adults alike.

The Project Chrysalis appeal for Megan Baker House was launched last year to raise the money which represents a year’s sessions for ten children.

The charity's headquarters are in Moreton Eye near Leominster and provides conductive education sessions for children and adults with motor disabilities such as cerebral palsy, dyspraxia, Parkinson's disease, stroke and acquired brain injury.

The £35,000 target has been reached with the help of so many people making donations, holding events for the charity and channelling fundraising activities.

Chief executive of the charity Lee Gough said: “We are so grateful for the help the Hereford Times' readers and advertisers have given us over the past 13 months.

"As a charity we rely entirely on grants from trusts and community support to raise around £400,000 a year just to maintain the current services and help our beneficiaries to a more optimistic future.

“The money raised has been fantastic and we thank everyone for that but almost as important for us is that we are now so much better known as being a local charity in the Herefordshire, as a result of the publicity the paper has given us.

"This appeal has enabled us to spread the message of what we do and what we can do to help local people so much more widely than was the case."

Editor of the Hereford Times John Wilson said he was delighted with the appeal's success.

He said: “I really believe in the power of the local media that I’ve worked in for so many years. I truly believe that you can harness the power of our communities to support deserving causes like Megan Baker House and generate significant funds whilst doing a great deal of good for our local communities."

The appeal may have come to an end but the work of Megan Baker House has not and the requirement for fundraising continues.
