ORGANISERS are delighted to announce the details of the St Mary the Virgin Church, Burghill, Heritage Afternoon.
A specially commissioned British Soldier carved and donated by Dan Christie, member of Burghill Parish and bell ringer with the Burghill Towerbell ringers, will be one of the main attractions at the Church Heritage Afternoon to be held on Saturday, September 8 from 1.30pm - 5pm, with the theme of Burghill between the Wars.
The First World War soldier will take pride of place in church along with poignant memories and tributes to those men from Burghill who died during both World Wars.
Military equipment, memorabilia from the period and blacksmithing tools will be on display outside, along with vintage vehicles, a miniature railway giving train rides and a vintage barrel organ.
Inside the church will be displays of village life including historic photos and postcards along with the history of St Mary's Hospital, the fatal wartime American Bomber crash, the SOE heroine who survived the Second World War, murder at Burghill Court and the art of village cider-making.
There will also be "make do and mend" costumes of the period, beautiful quilts, craft demonstrations, a cake stall, refreshments and a raffle.
Burghill and Tillington Handbell Ringers will be entertaining visitors throughout the afternoon as well as giving people the chance to "have a go" at handbell ringing.
Please join in the fun and there will be an especially warm welcome for anyone taking part in the Herefordshire Historic Churches Ride and Stride Day who arrive on a bicycle, by horse or on foot.
All proceeds will go towards the Church Tower Repair and Restoration Fund.
