A HISTORIC dam is almost fully restored as the revitalisation of Fishpool Valley at Croft Castle continues.
The National Trust property near Leominster has undergone restoration work to its Fishpool Valley over the past year.
The first dam at the bottom of the valley is almost finished and a restored spillway is now partially completed.
Imogen Sambrook, Project Manager, said: "It’s remarkable to see the transformation that has already taken place at the first dam. Thanks to our supporters, we’re able to safeguard this structure against future breaches and restore what was originally a medieval earthwork."
It costs between £20,000 to £30,000 to repair one dam, so the National Trust is continuing to seek donations to help fund its work.
Fishpool Valley was landscaped in the eighteenth century when the Picturesque movement was influencing the tastes of the Herefordshire aristocracy.
The contoured landscape was purposefully designed to create dramatic and wild views.
