A GRANDMOTHER was caught drunk behind the wheel after pulling up to drink wine.
Julia Lawrence, 64, from Cinderford, Gloucestershire, was arrested on August 30 in Weston under Penyard, after a roadside breathalyser test showed she was driving while above the legal limit of alcohol.
Hereford Magistrates Court heard how Lawrence was found in a back lane, struggling to start her car, with traffic queuing behind her.
She was driving back to her home in Gloucestershire after visiting her daughter in Sheffield.
She was upset on the journey home and decided to drink, the court heard.
Lawrence's defence explained how she was 'mortified' about the incident and has taken concrete steps to get help.
She is banned from driving for 20 months and received a £300 fine from Hereford Magistrates Court on September 19.
