A FREE community event in Hereford which has grown year-on-year has scooped runners-up in national awards.
Hereford River Carnival was named as runners-up in the Arts, Culture and Events category at the 2018 Living Waterways Awards promoted by national charity the Canal and River Trust.
Members of the carnival team attended the awards ceremony at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham.
Patricia Hales, one of the carnival team, said: “Hereford River Carnival has come a long way in just five years. This recognition on the national stage is down to all the hard work of the many volunteers who make the River Carnival such a special day for the whole community.
“We were up against projects from all over the country."
She said the support the carnival received from the Hereford Times and the innovative media partnership they developed in 2018 impressed the judging panel.
Hereford River Carnival takes places on the first May Bank holiday each year.
