THE enterprising duo behind two of the city's popular restaurants has relaunched a campaign to raise money to reimagine their eateries.

Edwin and Dorian Kirk were delighted when they reached their £400,000 Crowdfunding target in less than a week.

But the brothers who own a Rule of Tum, which runs The Bookshop and The Burger Shop in Aubrey Street, were disappointed when they discovered that due to the small print, they were not allowed to keep the investments.

Dorian said: "We have had to go back to the drawing board. We are now offering equity in A Rule of Tum, which is fantastic. And we are still doing black card rewards."

They have reached almost £270,000 of the £400,000 but need that last push to reach the target within 30 days.

They plan to buy the current buildings where they are based in Aubrey Street, behind the Green Dragon.

Dorian said: "That is the main reason we are raising money - to buy the properties and re-do them. It also means that we will be able to carry on doing the Indie Food Festival next year."

There was a question over the future of the popular festival as it had to be cancelled this year due to concerns over whether the brothers would have to move their restaurants due to a significant rent increase.

But by buying the properties they can run the festival within the car park behind the restaurants.

They are going to expand the Bookshop into the adjoining property which was previously Nilam Music.

Dorian said: "We can have an open plan kitchen and cook everything over wood and charcoal.

"It would be a really beautiful place to have coffee and brunch.

"We are full in the evenings every week during peak times."

The Burger Shop sells high-quality burgers seven days a week and The Bookshop serves a concise steak menu Thursday to Saturday and on Sundays serves roasts.

They are celebrating as they have just been mentioned in the Observer Food Monthly Awards 2018.

The Bookshop was Runners-up in the Best Sunday Lunch category and The Burger Shop was Runners-Up in the Best Cheap Eats category.

Dorian said: "It is awesome. It really is. We are just really excited."
