COUNCIL leaders are considering redeveloping two of Hereford’s most prominent city centre streets.
Herefordshire Council has been in talks with business owners on Broad Street and King Street about the possibility of public realm improvements there.
They say feedback has been generally positive and will consider allocating funding for improvements in the New Year.
Transport and regulatory services cabinet member Barry Durkin said: “Improving the public realm within Hereford city centre is a key part of the council’s strategy for supporting the local economy and improving the environment.
“This has recently included works in Commercial Street which are due to be completed early in the new year.
“Following an approach from the new owners of the Green Dragon hotel, initial discussions have taken place with businesses and property owners within Broad Street and King Street to gauge the likely level of support for public realm improvement in these streets.
“Initial feedback from business has been generally positive and the council will consider allocating funding for such improvements as part of setting budgets for next year in February 2019.
Subject to funding, proposals would be developed and a full public consultation carried out prior to implementation.
Ward councillor Len Tawn said he had not seen any new plans but any improvement should be welcomed providing it is what residents want.
“If the council does a proper consultation and the majority view is followed as it should be then it should be supported,” he said.
