THE changing features of some of Hereford's landmarks and hidden gems are amongst those captured by 'Time Travel Artist' James Fox.

In his fascinating series of films, created using photographs, paintings and engravings gathered from a variety of sources married with a dashboard showing the prime minister, monarch and technology of the time, photographer Mr Fox creates and animates visual journeys through time.

Begun as a "pet project," the films now cover many locations across the country, offering a unique view into history, with subjects ranging from long-disused railway lines to iconic buildings and street scenes.

"It's often the background changes that are the most interesting," Mr Fox explained.

"Much of the time the picture in the foreground, the main feature, remains relatively unchanged whilst the buildings and scenery in the background change around it, something particularly evident in my film of the Wye bridge, in which you can see the loss of the cathedral's west tower.

"Some of the places I create videos of are long gone, which can make it extremely difficult to pinpoint the location in the modern day, for example Hereford's toll gates, which is a project I'd really like to cover, but evidence is so scant."
