A CHARITY which has provided help and support to the Armed Forces community is celebrating its first year in partnership with Wye Valley NHS Trust and the 2gether Mental Health Foundation.

The Defence Medical Welfare Service's welfare officers in Herefordshire are working closely with health professionals to provide tailored physical and mental health support to the aged veteran community in times of need, helping to reduce lengthy hospital stays and ease pressure on NHS staff.

Working as part of a consortium which includes Herefordshire Council, the Alzheimer's Society and The Cart Shed, the charity assists with key welfare support issues such as housing or home adaptation needs, social isolation, respite care and substance misuse to aid recovery, promote independence and improve the wellbeing of older veterans.
