A HEREFORD resident has said it is a "crying shame" that trees have been cut back in her road.
Sarah Curtis from Harvey Road in Tupsley has always admired the trees in her street opposite her home.
So she was upset to see council sub-contractors extensively cutting back one of the trees and also working on another.
She said: "I doubt they will ever recover. The trees are beautiful and a real asset to the road.
"The birds love them and we had a woodpeckers nest in one of them in 2018. They turn a wonderful gold colour in the autumn."
Sarah has lived in the road for 30 years and has seen the council send out contractors to trim the trees over the years.
But she said they have never cut down as much as they did this week.
She added: "I feel the locals should have been consulted about this - it is a crying shame."
Acer Tree Services carried out the work on instructions from Balfour Beatty, which decided to cut the trees back on behalf of Herefordshire Council.
A Herefordshire Council spokesman said: “We inspect the condition of trees in Herefordshire in accordance with our annual tree survey to ensure they remain safe.
"During the inspection, the need for pollarding work to a maple tree in Harvey Road was identified. The maple tree will regrow.
"In addition, a cherry tree in Harvey Road was given a ‘crown lift’, following the survey.”
