VILLAGERS living near the M50 motorway have been told there will be no more night-time closures for repair work.

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin visited the village store in Pendock to discuss the impact on the community of roadworks that have been dragging on for more than five years.

There have been more than five years of road diversions and delays while Highways England carries out essential maintenance work on the motorway, the key route from Herefordshire to the M5 and the rest of the motorways network.

The MP chatted to business owner Yvonne Baker, as well as receiving a briefing from the team working on the M50.

Work is expected to finish early next year, but the team has promised that there will be no further overnight closures of the motorway, forcing diverted traffic onto quiet country lanes.

Mrs Baldwin said: “The M50 is 60 years old and it is essential that work is carried out, but I have been concerned about the impact these, and the previous roadworks, has had on the local community.

“I’ve formally raised my concerns with Highways England and I am pleased to see that they are now working closely with the community to ensure that people and businesses are not seriously impact by the motorway closures and diversions.

“The message to get out there is that the store at Pendock is fully open for business, and we look forward to seeing the work concluded very soon.”
