THE driver of a vintage Ford car which was involved in a fatal crash loved all things vintage and made an impression on everyone he met, his family said.

Jason Allen, 49, and his friend Andrew Ralph, both died at the scene after the 1930s car they were travelling in was involved in a crash with an ambulance on the A49 near Ross-on-Wye.

The pair worked for Ledbury haulage firm ABE, and bosses at the business said they were "devastated" and considered themselves fortunate to have worked alongside long-serving drivers.

Paying tribute to his brother, who lived near Ross-on-Wye, Jeremy said: "Jason Allen was taken tragically from us early on the morning of Sunday, August 25 while driving his 1930 Ford Model A coupe vintage car to Onslow Park Steam Rally near Shrewsbury.

"He had a flawless 30+ year HGV driving career and in his spare time lived for all things vintage with his collection of classic lorries and cars.

"He made an impression on everyone he met through his life and will be sadly missed by his entire family and friends.

"His good friend Andrew Ralph travelling with him also lost his life and our deepest sympathies go to his family."

Two paramedics were treated at the scene after the crash at about 6.11am, but their injuries were not thought to be serious.

The ambulance was not responding to a 999 call.
