THE POPULAR annual fireworks display on Hereford’s Castle Green has been scrapped.
The organisers say they are in danger of losing a significant amount of money and they cannot risk it.
If they did it would be a hammer blow to the Friends of Castle Green (FOCG) and St James Primary School’s parent teachers and friends association.
The event has been staged on the green for the last five years and has attracted crowds of up to 2,500.

But FOCG events director Mark Hubbard says a review of the finances has shown that the costs have been higher than they were budgeting for.
And with the chance of bad weather hitting income, the Friends have decided the risk is too great.
News of the cancellation was revealed ‘with great sadness’ in a joint letter from Mr Hubbard and St James’ PTFA Chair Claire Jones
“FoCG has decided to step back from being an events-led organisation in order to focus on its new role as guardian of the Pavilion building.
“The directors are unable to commit to a running large-scale weather-dependant event.
“The Fireworks Spectacular has been a fantastic community event as well as a great fundraiser.
“We know this is going to be a huge disappointment to everyone and we are very sorry.
We would like to thank everyone who has ever volunteered to help the event happen in the past.”
